No F.I.L.M. Army This Week

Due to a combination of various poxes and Jay’s “Out-Of-Town-itis”, there won’t be a show this week. But do not worry, our crack staff (aka Scruffy, the janitor) has put together some recommendations for this week’s releases.

Theaterical:

Surrogates: Based on the very good graphic novel, this has gotten decent reviews so far. Pretty stock sci-fi story, much like I, Robot without Will “Welcome To Erf” Smith. No idea on how well it sticks with the source material.

Paranormal Activity: The latest in Blair Witch style docu-shockers, this focuses on a young couple who believe that they are living in a haunted house while the truth is much more disturbing. Many early reviews point to one of the scariest movies of the year, so if you can find it (it is in limited release) check it out.

DVD:

The Girlfriend Experience: Steven Soderburgh’s “off year indie” movie, this features Sasha Grey in her mainstream (aka non-porn) debut as a high priced call girl. Grey is kinda the it-girl in the indie scene, lending her talents to music, art, and now film. In the capable hands of Soderburgh, this one could be good.

Away We Go: It’s hard to get more NPR points than David Eggers and Sam Mendes, and capable performances from Maya Rudolph and John Krazinski make this a Garden State for grown ups.

Thanks again for listening, and we will be back next week. A quick reminder that we are always accepting submissions from our listeners, so if you wanted to do a review, make a comment, or even highlight a film or genre you don’t feel is being covered, check out the forums for details on how to submit your piece. Thank you, and keep watching movies.
