Yet Another Gaming Show Episode 214 – The Darkest Of Stars
We’ve often said that we aren’t a very hardcore or even very traditional video game show. Hell our semi-official motto, displayed lovingly on our T-shirt, is “Softcore Gaming”. So appropriate is it that this, a non-typical game show, features a non-typical game and even less-typical game developer? Very appropriate, Susan, very.
This week the gang talks to J Allen Williams and Mark Walters of Parallax Studios about the new “interactive movie” Darkstar. Featuring the entire original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (one of whom makes a short guest appearance on the show) as well as a Shatnerian Brit getting killed in 39 distinct ways, Darkstar is a return to the full-motion-video-laden adventure games like Phantasmagoria and Myst, just with less rape scenes and more sarcastic robots. Jeff and Mark talk a bit about the evolution of Darkstar over the 10 year production cycle as well as Jeff’s love of pinball and how Apple inadvertently caused over a year delay. At least we think it was inadvertent. That Jobs is a shifty fellow.
A slight warning, there are spoilers toward the end of the show today. You have been warned.
Darkstar will be available November 5th via download and box copy online. Buying it will support indie filmmaking AND indie gaming. How’s that for value?
